Infertility

Infertility-----32

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after one year of regular, unprotected intercourse—or six months for women over the age of 35. It is a common yet emotionally challenging condition that affects both men and women. Female infertility can be caused by hormonal imbalances, ovulation disorders, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, or uterine abnormalities, while male infertility is often linked to low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or abnormal sperm morphology. In many cases, lifestyle factors such as chronic stress, obesity, smoking, poor nutrition, and excessive alcohol consumption can also impair fertility.

Diagnosing infertility requires a comprehensive evaluation of both partners, including hormone testing, ultrasound imaging, semen analysis, and, in some cases, diagnostic laparoscopy. Once the underlying cause is identified, treatment is tailored to the individual’s condition and reproductive goals. Options may include ovulation-inducing medications, hormonal therapy, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or surgical correction of anatomical issues. Many couples also benefit from counseling and lifestyle modifications to support emotional well-being and reproductive health.
