Ectopic Pregnancies

Ectopic Pregnancies----33

Ectopic pregnancy is a potentially life-threatening condition in which a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tubes—hence often referred to as a tubal pregnancy. The uterus is uniquely designed to support the development of a fetus; however, when implantation occurs elsewhere, it cannot progress normally. This abnormal implantation prevents the pregnancy from being viable and poses serious health risks to the mother if not diagnosed and treated promptly.

Though the fallopian tube is the most common site, ectopic pregnancies can also occur in the ovary, cervix, abdominal cavity, or within a cesarean section scar. As these areas lack the necessary space and structure to support an embryo, the growing tissue can cause internal bleeding, rupture, and severe pain, making early detection critical. Common symptoms include sharp abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, shoulder tip pain, and dizziness, especially if the tube ruptures.

At Dr. Pavani Gynae Care Clinic, we prioritize the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancies through ultrasound imaging, clinical evaluation, and hormone level testing. Treatment may include medications like methotrexate in early, unruptured cases or surgical intervention in more advanced or emergency situations. Our focus is on safeguarding the patient’s health, preserving future fertility when possible, and offering compassionate care during what can be a frightening experience.
